Vilhelm Parfumerie London Funk or the juicy weed startle…
Since it’s launch last year, I was curious what twist was hidden behind the Funk part in the name and I think I know now. It has a note that is making me thing of weed note presented in Byredo’s Open Sky. I was surprised to have this association upon the first wear but I don’t deny the idea of it either. It actually makes more sense to me to justify the name associated with London trippy 70’s and Kim Morrison inspiration.
Opening is all about juicy bergamot with effervescent crisp note of basil that I love so much. It is not as green as I expected and bergamot floats in and out on my skin during the day which is lovely. Once the basil takes a step back the black currant leaf accord emerges mixed with that raw but not intrusive weed smell. It is if someone would be smoking it in the distance and you just caught few whiffs of it in the wind.
On my skin after 2h I seem to hit the base where salty vetiver and hay/mate note start to dominate. It becomes quite masculine and drifts away from almost fruity opening to modern male cologne territory. Overall longevity is 8+ hours with strong projection which is quite unexpected. I like it a lot but it is not love for me yet. Not like with many other scents form this house. Can’t wait till the warmer days so I can give it a proper assessment in the heat.
